Michael Flynn - Owner & President
Mike is the creator of Scottsdale Running Company. It was his vision to create a
new running shoe store with exceedingly high attention to detail and customer service.
Mike has his roots in triathlons and marathon racing.
He has a knack for performing well
in long distance events with absurdly minimal training. He has regularly jumped into
marathons with literally no training for the weeks prior and put down times in the
neighborhood of 3:15. The best such example was in the fall of 2003 when he went on
a marathon binge every few weeks (Chicago, New York, Philadelphia, Tucson)
He has a personal best of 2:50 which he can undoubtedly lower if he ever gets the time for
some serious training. However, such is the life of a small business owner where there hardly
ever seems enough time to train instead of working on the business. On the triathlon
side of things Mike has done over a dozen ironman races and has a PR of 9:35 at Switzerland
in 2000. He has also done Ironman Hawaii 3 times.
Although Mike has a ton of practical
experience from all his racing, he also holds a degree in exercise physiology so he also
knows the technical side of things related to biomechanics and sports nutrition.
Lance Muzslay P.P.- Owner & Vice President
Having put in more miles on a bike and running shoes than the average
person drives in a year, Lance undoubtedly brings extensive knowledge
and skills to the SRC staff. With over ten years of triathlon experience,
combined with his optimism and sense of humor, Lance is a perfect balance
to Mike’s more stressed out, uh, serious style. (Did we say that?
Just kidding boss.)
Lance originally hails from Ocean City, NJ, where his favorite pastimes
when not training were mostly surfing and shell collecting.
Seriously though, the guy is good. In 2002 he finished 8th at Ironman
Australia with a time of 8:45. Lance has also qualified and competed in
11 consecutive Ironman World Championships, raced in 19 Ironman
distance triathlons and has always finished under ten hours.
More noteworthy than his racing record is that Lance has never in his
life experienced a muscle cramp or “charlie horse” as some
of us might refer to it. Ever. For this amazing feat of superhuman strength
we have given him the honorary degree of “physiological phenomenon”.
Mark Yost
Mark Yost has worked at SRC for a little over a year and will run his first collegiate
season for Mesa Community College in the fall. A graduate of Saguaro High School, Mark was a
successful track athlete in the 400m, 800m, and 1,600m events and hopes to continue that
success into his collegiate years where his focus will be on the 5,000m and 10,000m events.
A splash (literally) into the steeplechase event is not out of the realm of possibility either.
Mark intends to study physical therapy at Mesa and in his downtime focuses on the three R's:
reptiles, running, and reading.
Andi Felton
Andi Felton grew up in Omaha, earned a degree in exercise science from
the University of Kansas, and moved to Arizona in 1998. Andi enjoys running on both
recreational and competitive levels. She is currently training for the New York Marathon this
fall and has completed the Boston, Chicago, and Honolulu Marathons as well as the Breat Cancer 3 Day Walk.
Chris Pope
Chris Pope works part time at SRC, while attending school at Arizona State
University in Tempe, Arizona. While studying urban planing at ASU, he also finds
time to run on a recreational level. A graduate of Cactus Shadows high school, Chris
was a 3-sport varsity athlete in soccer, track, and cross-country. He also holds 3
school records for track in the 4X400m 4X800m and 800m.
Emmet Acebedo
Emmet was born and raised in
Long Beach, Ca where he spent more time surfing than at school. Emmet moved to Arizona
nine years ago, to flee the overpriced housing market and to get more serious about school.
After graduating from Devry University Phoenix with an Electronic Degree he went to work
for a French owned High Frequency Component Company. Emmet came to SRC looking to work at
a place with a little less politics. Emmet is a licensed Real Estate
partner at Keller Williams. By the way, he's always looking for new clients looking to buy or sell a home.
He is a recreational runner, and also enjoys competing in triathlons but does not
enjoy the Speedo briefs.
